When you have a hammock in your garden, it’s the perfect way to relax after a hard days work in the office or a day of running around playing with the kids. The hammock is the ideal piece of yard furniture that will allow the individual to lay their head on a firm pillow, put their legs up and allow their body to be suspended in midair. Keep in mind that a hammock will only be as comfortable and safe as the hammock stand or frame that supports the sturdy fabric holding the individual.

The material used to construct the hammock stand with is of utmost importance in order to ensure your safety. Not only should the material used in the manufacturing of the hammock stand be strong enough, but you may wish to match the décor that the family maybe trying to establish in the back yard. There are three basic categories of materials that are used to manufacture a hammock stand. Those materials include stainless steel, wood and other materials.

The Stainless Steel Stand

Making a stainless steel hammock stand is very good for many reasons. For example if your hammock is placed on the patio, deck or lawn it will be exposed to the elements of nature. One of the most harmful elements is rain.

Stainless steel is the only material that is able to resist any damage that may be caused by the elements. That damage from rain is primarily through an oxidation process which can result in rust. Subsequently, the ability of stainless steel to resist rust will allow the integrity of this hammock stand to remain intact. Other advantages of a hammock stand made from stainless steel are the ability of this material to maintain its classic look. A hammock stand made from stainless steel is the most expensive material.

The Wood Stand

When you want to place your hammock stand on the deck or on the lawn, you need to have a wood stand for the hammock. In addition to this look blending in with the other outdoor pieces of furniture, a hammock stand made from wood is durable, strong and will age naturally. This natural aging will allow for the look of the hammock stand to maintain its classic appearance.

When you decide to have the hammock stand to be made from wood, it is important to protect the wood from all the elements. This protection can be accomplished by applying some type of weatherproofing such as varnish.

Other Materials used for stands

Besides the stainless steel and wood stands, there are a few other materials that you can use to make your hammock stand. These include aluminum, although this material is not as sturdy as the stainless steel and wood frames, they will however serve the purpose when they are not abused and not overloaded. These aluminum frames are the most affordable as well.
