Using German Smokers To Grill Meat
Posted by Sara Hicks on August 8th, 2007
Do you get that smoked flavor that makes meat taste perfect with your regular grill or even with any other traditional cooking? Perhaps it is simply that you have never tried using a German smoker for your cooking needs. A German smoker will provide you with a unique and distinct taste to your meats and other cooked food.
What Is a German Smoker?
If you have been using an ordinary grill, the German smoker will not be much of a change for you. It is simply a grill-like food preparation cooker. It is like a grill in that you put the meat inside of it and heat it up. The difference lies in the fact that the smoke is what is used to cook the meat, rather than the flame.
This is done in the German smoker when the flame is so low that it cannot reach and burn the food. The food is also placed inside the German smoker and you shouldn’t check on it very often because the point is to keep it sealed in the smoker long enough for it to cook and that have that smoked taste to it.
The taste is what is the most different when you are using a smoker rather than a grill to cook your food.
Taste Differences
Not everyone will like the difference in taste between a German smoker and a grill and therefore they will still keep the normal grill. The smoke used by the German smoker actually allows the meat to dry all the way through as it cooks. This means that the taste of the smoke goes all the way through the food that you are cooking. This isn’t simply a marinade, but a way of cooking your food.
Cooking Time Differences
Cooking your food in a German smoker is much different to any other way. It will simply take longer with a German smoker than with a regular grill. This is something that might be a hindrance when you begin to cook with a smoker, because you are used to the quick satisfaction that results in cooking with a grill.
It is important to know that the benefits of cooking with a smoker far outweigh the cost in time. It is a far healthier way to cook and the taste is much more clear and strong, if you cook using a smoker rather than a simple charcoal grill.
